Former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth has praised MS Dhoni for his modest and down-to-earth nature. He noted that even though Dhoni played a significant part in the evolution of prominent players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he would never say it or show it in public.
Sreesanth was a member of the Indian teams that clinched the World Cup under Dhoni’s captaincy in two formats – the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. In addition to Sreesanth, Dhoni played a significant role in nurturing several other players, including Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin during the earlier phase of their careers.
During asked Rohit to open the innings during the 2013 champions trophy which turned out to be a smart move of his career.
While having a conversation with Sportskeeda, Sreesanth said, “MS Dhoni would never say he made Rohit Sharma’s career. I know him really well. We can say that because Dhoni gave him an opportunity. Why did he give him an opportunity? Because he knew that at that number he would do well. Be it Raina, Virat or Ashwin for that matter,” he said.
He further mentioned, “Mahi bhai has played a big role even in my career, everybody’s career. Nobody can change that. But why did he do that? Because he knew that if he supports those players, they would go to the next level. Maybe he gave the support to us that he himself didn’t get.”
Currently, Rohit Sharma is leading the team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Men in Blue has already won a game against Australia by six wickets which was played on October 8 in Chennai.”
