India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma was impressed with the performances of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami after the remarkable victory over the New Zealand National Cricket Team.
India continued their brilliant run in the ICC World Cup 2023 and made it 5 out of 5 by defeating the Tom Latham-led side at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.
The Men In Blue won the match by 4 wickets with 12 balls remaining and this was India’s first win over the Kiwis in the ICC events since the 2003 World Cup.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said that they don’t want to get overexcited after winning 5 matches on the trot. He said:
“Good start to the tournament. Job is half done. Important to stay balanced. Not to think too far ahead. Important to stay in the present.”
Shami took the opportunity with both hands – Rohit Sharma
Talking about Mohammed Shami’s inclusion in the playing XI, Rohit Sharma said that the senior pacer took the opportunity with both hands and bagged a 5-wicket haul. He said:
“Shami took the opportunity with both hands. He has experience in these conditions and is a class bowler. At one stage, we were looking at 300 plus. Credit to our bowlers at the back end. I am enjoying my batting. Both are different personalities but we (Him and Gill) complement each other. Happy that we won. “
Rohit Sharma further said that he doesn’t have enough words to describe Kohli’s 95-run performance as he has been playing match-winning innings for India for a very long period of time. He said:
“Nothing much to say. He (Kohli) has done this for us so many years. He backed himself to do the job. Kohli and Jadeja pulled us back when we lost a few wickets in the middle.”
India National Cricket Team have emerged as one of the top fielding teams in the World Cup. In their first four matches of the competition, the Indian players were excellent on the field, but that wasn’t the case in their fifth match as the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja dropped easy catches. Talking about this Rohit Sharma said:
“The fielding is something we pride ourselves on. Today the fielding wasn’t clinical. Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world. These things happen. We know that fielding is something that will decide a lot of things going forward. We love traveling and playing in different parts of the game.”
