Former cricketer Pervez Mir has alleged Rashid Latif of slapping Javed Miandad In 1993. The controversies in the Pakistan Cricket are getting worse as each day passes by. Amid all the fuss around the ICC World Cup 2023, a new drama has unfolded.
He revealed how it all started. Parvez Mir said that when Javid Miandad got slapped he was sitting outside the dressing room. While talking about the unpleasant atmosphere in the dressing room, he also spoke about how he convinced Miandad to let it go. Speaking on Samaa TV, he stated:
“I witnessed this rivalry back in 1993. I flew from London to Antigua due to an incident in Guyana. Khaled Mahmood was the manager. I pleaded with Khaled saab, ‘For God’s sake, don’t make any statements to the media.’ Later, I learned that two players had sold the story to The Sun (in the UK) for 10,000 pounds. I asked the players, ‘What are you doing? We’ve come here to support you, and you’re doing this.’
And do you know what was happening inside the dressing room? Rashid Latif slapped Javed Miandad. Poor Miandad was sitting outside the dressing room. There was a heated altercation in the dressing room in Antigua.
I inquired with Mudassar Nazar (a former Pakistan opener), about what was going on. The atmosphere had turned very unpleasant. I advised Javed to let it go and forget it. These things happen in such high-pressure environments. To address such issues, you need the right people managing the team at the board level.”
NZ vs PAK: Rashid Latif denies all the allegations of slapping Javid Miandad
Rashid Latif, however, denied all the allegations and revealed the entire story. He said that he sent a legal notice to Pervez Mir for speaking fake news about him. During an interaction on Cricbuzz, he stated:
“Miandad was seated outside the dressing room. I cannot recall ever slapping anyone in my life. I sent a legal notice because we must put an end to the spread of false stories in front of the nation.”
Rashid Latif’s legal notice read: “That the words used on national television by you are not are not only vulgar but also impolite and unethical while also being an incorrect depiction of the facts that unfolded on the tour. Our client never slapped or even raised his voice against the great Javed Miandad.
“That our client hereby vehemently denies your patently baseless, unfounded, shameless and frivolous statement, which was made by you with the sole intention of destroying the reputation acquired by them through the course of their cricketing career. The statement by you has also been refuted by Great Javed Miandad which speaks volumes of your ill intention towards our client.”
Javid Miandad however also cleared all the rumours. He admitted that Rashid Latif didn’t slap him at all and the latter is like his brother and has never insulted nor disrespected him.
